After WWII the Polish ocean liner “Batory” operated on the route Gdynia–New York, and from 1951 to India. The captain of the ship was Jan Ćwikliński. The Ministry for Public Security accused him of having a hostile attitude towards the People’s Republic of Poland and insisted on him being removed from his position as Batory captain. In the spring of 1953 the ship underwent a technical check-up at a shipyard in Great Britain. In the mean-time it was rumoured that the captain was to be arrested upon his return to Poland on suspicion of espionage. When the renovation works were about to be completed, Ćwikliński decided to escape and left his ship for good. The captain was given political asylu…

This contribution presents the traces on the ground and the archive documentation of a bombardment that took place in Solunto the night of 12 December 1942. The starting point of this research was a photograph preserved in the archives of the Regional Archaeological Museum Antonio Salinas which documents the restoration of a Solunto cistern following the bombing of the Allies. The site, in fact, was hit by a bomb which caused damage to the large masonry cistern placed near the Casa delle Maschere, at the highest point of the site. Forum polsko - niemieckie powołane do życia w 1976 roku stało się płaszczyzną rozmów i konsultacji bilateralnych. Po wprowadzeniu stanu wojennego jego prace zawieszono. Z uwagi na znaczenie Forum podjęto, zarówno w PRL, jak i w RFN, wiele działań mających na celu zniwelowanie niekorzystnych wypowiedzi stojących na przeszkodzie przywróceniu jego prac. Dotyczyło to szczególnie wypowiedzi polityków chadeckich w sp[rawie granicy polsko - niemieckiej i mniejszości niemieckiej w Polsce czy braku zgody na udział w Forum przedstawicieli koncesjonowanych polskich związków zawodowych.
